My Story

Alyona A.:  I was born on May 11th, in Stepanavan. My eyes are brown, while my hair is blond. I am in 3rd grade. My favourite school subjects are the Russian and Algebra. My father left us around eight years ago. My mother temporarily works as a waitress. My guardian is my mother. I have two sisters: 22-year-old Lilit and 8-year-old Anastasia. Lilit has a 3rd-degree disability due to her cerebral palsy. Our income is not enough to cover our needs. It includes a poverty allowance, my sister's medical pension and my mother's daily wage. After my father left, we started renting an earth-sheltered house. My mother has placed a large plastic bag under the roof to keep rainwater from leaking into the house. The windows and doors are old. The paint on the living room and bedroom floors has peeled off. The kitchen floor is concrete. The kitchen walls are mouldy due to dampness. The bathroom condition is poor. The only items belonging to us are our desk and the TV. We heat the home with gas. With your financial assistance, we will purchase food and clothing. (4-387; new)

Remark* Alyona is a very cheerful and lively girl. She quickly adapts to unfamiliar environments and easily makes new friends. Alyona does well in school. Alongside her regular classes, Alyona attends music school (violin department). She also practices dance and handicrafts. Among the three sisters, Alyona is usually the one who yields more and takes on the role of the peacemaker.
